2020 President's Welcome

Firstly, I pray that this message finds you in the best of health.

It is with great humbleness and honour that I have been elected as President of Muslim Legal Network. As I take up this office, my overwhelming emotion is humility to serve in this capacity.

I would like to express my thanks to outgoing President, Jazeer Nijamudeen, for heading the MLN with excellent leadership over the last seven years. He has truly been instrumental to the MLN’s success.

It has been an incredibly difficult year for all of us. The COVID-19 pandemic has led to harrowing impacts on our physical and mental health, jobs and livelihoods.

However, our state is now bouncing back and as we transition into the new year, it is a good time to remind ourselves of the vision of the MLN:

Our vision is for a society in which we have equal access to the mentors and opportunities needed to reach our potential. A society in which everyone has equal access to justice.

We will continue with this vision through our events and programs lined up for next year.

The diversity in skillsets across our volunteer law students and lawyers is one of the key strengths of the MLN, and we will continue to leverage this as we deliver services to our community. Further, I am steadfastly committed to promoting cultural diversity in the law. The MLN is working with key stakeholders, including the Law Institute of Victoria, to ensure that discussions are being had and actions taking place to lead us in the right direction.

We aim to support you by protecting and safeguarding your interests, sharing opportunities and effectively empowering you to grow and reach your potential. I call upon you as a Member to support our vision.
